"I... don't know if it would have been awkward or not," he admitted. He hadn't found hugging particularly easy since his mother died. Even with Betty, he'd been awkward and unsure and she had usually initiated any contact. "More awkward. I'm not good at hugging. Or... physical interactions at all outside a hand shake."
Tony had been a blessing and a curse in that regard. He never made Bruce think it was friendly contact and then shocked him, but he did have a habit of shocking him, poking him and otherwise trying to get to see Hulk in his eyes.
"Hang on, you're having biological reactions? Well, I suppose, why not, you need to eat and sleep, though all engines need rest and fuel, biological or synthetic, but you're having those reactions to interactions?"
